To Be Read September 2019

TBR – September 2019 ‘The Testaments’ by Margaret Atwood

Ok, I know this isn’t a Christian nor Inspirational book but it is ok to read out of genre!

So the book that goes on the TBR list this September is Margaret Atwood’s ‘The Testaments’.

I read  ‘The Handmaid’s Tale’ many years ago and it was one of those books that made a lasting impression on me. The story was gripping, and it got me thinking about Christianity and women’s rights.

Furthermore, the book is set in place called Gilead, and this name is in the Bible. Gilead is a mountainous region in the east of the Jordon River and now in modern day Jordon.

Now I must stress, I read it over 10 years ago so whilst I don’t recall the exact  details, I do remember how  it made me feel. It was one of those book that kept my up late at night and after finishing, thought about the characters, story line and themes.

I may have to re-read ‘The Handmaid’s Tale’ again but it would be worth it. Also, I’m older now and will interpret it in a different way.

So I guess in this month, I will be recommending the two books!  There is just so much more to read. This reading life is not easy but fun.

‘The Testaments’ picks up from where the first book leaves off so it will be interesting to find out how Margaret Atwood continues the story. Interestingly, there is 34 year gap between the publication of the two books, so this has been a long time coming! The sequel is set 15 years the first book ends. I wonder if the main character from the first book (Offred) will be in this book?
