Came across this book on my Instagram feed as I follow a few chefs and foodies. I LOVE all things cake and as it is December, I have been making plans for my festive bakes. I always like a good cookbook but I do try and restrict my purchases and for this book, I may have to break this rule for this book!
The author was a quarter finalist on ‘The Great British Bake Off’ in 2016. (If you are reading this outside of the UK, ‘The Great British Bake Off’ which is a popular baking show in the UK). Pictures of the book on Instagram look A M A Z I N G and I would love to have a go at re-creating this at home.
The book has 60 recipes and what attracts me to the book is the promotional materials talks about how the recipes have been inspired by Benjamina’s Nigerian heritage and living in London. How interesting? In my experience, cakes, desserts and sweet treats are not key in Nigerian cuisine. Combining elements of Nigerian ingredients into cake recipes. The UK on the other hand has sweet treats embed into their food culture – think of Afternoon Teas, desserts after mains.
The New to cake is split into 6 chapters and covering : Spice, Chocolate, Citrus, Nuts & Caramel, Fruit and Floral. The book provides recipes for all seasons and so a good reference book.
I know this isn’t a typical reading book but it is a book nonetheless and we all have to eat, even if it is cake!
